After Teofimo Lopez fought his last battle against Josh Taylor in June, it is expected that he will return in 2024 and resume his journey. And, as per the latest updates, Lopez will likely battle for a title in his comeback fight.
Well, in a recent interview, the 26-year-old named a champion he believes he can defeat with only four rounds. And after his statement came to the fighter’s notice, he was delighted that Lopez thought of facing him in the ring.
Subriel Matias hopes for a March/April showdown with Teofimo Lopez

In a recent interview on The Porter Way Podcast, Teofimo Lopez, who would likely return to boxing in 2024, claimed he could easily defeat the current IBF Super Lightweight champion, Subriel Matias. According to ‘The Takeover’, although Matias is a “solid fighter” who definitely has “the grit“, Lopez is of the opinion that he will beat Matias within four rounds. In this context, following Lopez’s bold claim, Matias took to Instagram and uploaded a self-made poster of Matias vs. Lopez.

In doing so, he expressed he was glad that Lopez called him out. Additionally, he requested ‘The Takeover’ for a potential fight in March or April of 2024. “I know you accepted the perfect fight. Just one detail, don’t pick the date of February. Let’s make it happen by the end of March or early April. Let’s give the fans what they want to see,” Matias proposed.
With Matias’ interest becoming public, we can only hope that ‘The Takeover’ vs. ‘ El Orgullo de Maternillo’ will come to fruition in 2024.

Why would Matias vs. Lopez make a good fight?
Recently, ahead of Regis Prograis vs. Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez declared that he would like to face Regis after he has hopefully beaten Haney. While a number of boxing fans would love to watch Lopez face Prograis or even Haney, Matias vs. ‘The Takeover’ would also make a memorable fight. First, like Lopez, Matias has also suffered only one loss in boxing. In addition, Matias has a 100% KO rate in the Super Lightweight division of the sport!

As a result, if Teofimo Lopez were to face Matias, it would be interesting to see how ‘The Takeover’ deals with a boxer desperate to KO his opponent in the ring. Meanwhile, by facing and upsetting some of the best fighters [Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor] in the game, Lopez has built a name for himself too.
