With a heavy heart, Mia St. John wrote on her Instagram page a year after her former spouse left the world that she had died twice. When she lost her beloved son Julian in 2014 was the first time. The second time was when his father, her ex-husband, actor Kristoff St. John passed away on February 3, 2019. The message posted on February 3, 2020, at the same time displayed her determination to not give in to life’s struggles. She mentioned it would be the year of her rebirth.
Fifty-five-year-old Mia St. John has been through considerable pain and agony in her personal life. Of Mexican-American ancestry, she made her pro boxing debut at the age of twenty nine, married, and the mother of two children. Nevertheless, he was active for almost two decades. In those years, she became the WBC Super Welterweight champion, besides holding the IBA and IBF Lightweight belts. She retired in 2016 with a record of forty-nine wins against fourteen losses.
While her professional achievements soared by leaps and bounds, misfortune struck her personal life, one incident after another. First, her marriage to actor Kristoff St. John(1991) ended in divorce in 1995. The couple were the parents of Julian and Paris. But the biggest heartbreak came when after suffering from mental illness for many years, Julian took his own life on November 23, 2014.

Mia St. John talks about bettering mental health facilities as a priority
Four years later, Kristoff St. John passed away due to cardiovascular reasons. According to a 2020 article in ‘People,’ the actor’s condition worsened by alcohol. During the show, ‘The Doctors,’ when the host asked if their son’s passing away could have been a reason, Mia St. John replied, “I don’t think — I know. We were both terribly depressed and feeling suicidal from time to time, but his was so much deeper because there was so much guilt involved.”
Since then, the former champion has been campaigning to raise awareness about mental health issues, especially the facilities provided by various mental care institutions. Yesterday, she tweeted, “This is why we lost @kristoffstjohn1. Grief can take us down the rabbit hole & we feel there is no way out, but there is hope 4 others [are] still alive. Reform #mentalhealth facilities for those still suffering.“

According to the article, Mia St. John revealed some details about Julian’s death in a different ‘The Doctors’ show. She said, “There were so many errors starting from having plastic bags in a suicide unit, a high-risk unit. Not doing the mandatory checks. Also, my son was on a powerful anti-psychotic, which [when] toxicology came back, there was no anti-psychotic in his system, so they were not giving him his medication. If he was on his anti-psychotic, he would have never taken his life.”

Mia St. John told ‘People,’ that she and his ex-husband lost their son at a mental health institution discovered to have neglected the patients. Then after investigating a sizeable portion of facilities, she learned more about the widespread malaise. As a result, there might have been a few other fatalities. Her son might not have been the only one.
