In 2021, Caleb Plant fought Canelo Alvarez. According to all three judges, Plant started strong, winning the first round. But Alvarez quickly took over. He dominated the ring, cornered Plant, and unleashed powerful combos. His left hook significantly damaged Plant. In the 11th round, Alvarez landed a devastating left hook which he followed with two more heavy punches, knocking Plant down for the first time in his career. For the match, Alvarez won a whopping $40 million from the fight, and Plant took home $10 million.
Therefore, Plant knows firsthand what it means to be in the ring with the Mexican champ. As renowned, Canelo is gearing up for his high-stakes fight against Jermell Charlo. The fight is set to take place on the 30th of September with the “undisputed” badge of both the fighters in line. Thus, Caleb has shared his views about how the fight may transpire in a recent interview.

Caleb Plant weighs in on Alvarez vs. Charlo
In an interview with KO Artist Sports, Caleb Plant said that Canelo probably has the advantage since he’s bigger and more experienced. However, according to Plant, Jermell is also a strong fighter and holds an undisputed title for a reason. He said, “I don’t know, you know, right off the bat, you would probably give the edge to Canelo, being the bigger guy with more experience. But, uh, Jermell is obviously a gang fighter; he’s a hell of a fighter and he’s Undisputed for a reason. So, you know, that’s another big fight for boxing. And then, um, that’s what it’s about, you know….That’s what I’ve always wanted to be…”

Plant believes that this is a big fight for boxing. He feels proud to have contributed to a year of big fights and hopes to inspire other boxers. According to him, every fighter is unique because styles make fights. Both fighters have great coaches, and a good game plan is essential. As Plant said, “I’ve always wanted to be in the biggest fights, and that’s what boxing is about. Canelo’s obviously got a bag of tricks, and, um, you know, every fight is different.”
Furthermore, he elaborated by saying that styles make fights, and one may see someone fight one style or things go one way in one fight and go completely different in another. But, Caleb believes at the end of the day it’s the style of fighting that makes a bout worth watching. He concluded by saying, “We gotta let those guys get in there, we got the bell ring,” and, you know, they both got great coaches.”
