Growing up in an abusive and alcoholic household, against all odds, St. John managed to become a well-celebrated world champion in Boxing. She even lost her husband due to heart disease which was reportedly related to alcoholism. Thus her battle against addiction and alcoholism is personal. Moreover, as she walks the path of sobriety she also provides hope to fellow people who have been struggling from the same.

Her battle against mental health issues
The former boxer has also been a big advocate of spreading awareness about the importance of mental health. She has also done multiple fundraisers to help those suffering from mental health issues through the years. Her concern towards the topic arose after her son took his own life while in rehab back in 2014.

She recently did a suicide prevention fundraiser and received much support from Women’s MMA Featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. She has also shared how hiking helps her keep her anxiety and panic disorder in check. Even when her daughter was arrested earlier this year and charged with indecent exposure, resisting arrest, and escape, the boxer held on strong.
