What is the level of bravery we expect from a 6-year-old? Seems like Bridger Walker has become an icon of courage for even adults to take inspiration from. Walker saved his sister during the pandemic from a ferocious German Shepherd who attacked her. However, in his efforts to save her, he suffered multiple bites for which he had to receive 90 stitches on his head and left cheek. In a touching gesture, Walker not only received the WBC’s ‘Honorary Champion’ belt but is now the inspiration behind a whole new weight class in the WBC.
Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of WBC, revealed the introduction of the ‘Bridger’ weight class in honor of the young fighter. This division, situated between cruiserweight and heavyweight, carries a weight class ranging from 200 to 224 pounds. In a recent interview, Walker narrated the story from his perspective while revealing his favorite boxer and his message to him.

What message does Bridger Walker have for Ryan Garcia?
Attending the WBC Convention for the third time, in an interview with ES News, Walker recalled the incident as he remembered it. “I wanted to go over and play at a friend’s house with my sister and when we went in the backyard, the friend said- this is the nice dog and this is the meaner dog. Then the meaner dog started running after, so I jumped in front and saved her,” said the now nine-year-old. This feat had WBC inviting Walker as a guest of honor for the convention, which was graced by multiple boxing champions.
The Interviewer proceeded to ask him who his favorite boxer was, to which he replied, “I like all of them, it’s hard to say. I Like Canelo and Ryan.” With Ryan Garcia‘s December fight with Oscar Duarte inching closer, the young fan had a simple message for his favorite boxer. “Just try to do your best,” said Walker.

Mauricio Sulaiman is proud of the newly added division
In April, the WBC expanded its roster in the weight class, adding four new fighters after a stint with only 20 registered contenders. Notably, Deontay Wilder and Oleksandr Usyk, both capable of making the 224-pound limit, opted to stay on the sidelines. However, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman expressed pride in the bridgerweight division, established a couple of years ago.
In a chat with Sky Sports, Sulaiman highlighted the division’s impact and lauded the WBC’s historical changes. This included reducing world title fights from 15 to 12 rounds. Defending the bridgerweight division. Sulaiman asserted that despite not garnering widespread fan attention, every bridgerweight bout has been nothing short of sensational.
