“Y’all Can’t Break Me and…”: Following Disappointing Win, Shakur Stevenson Pens Stern Message to His Haters

On a night that left fans more restless than riveted, Shakur Stevenson found himself amid an unexpected challenge. The crowd’s discontent echoed through the arena, a chorus of boos that seemed to persist from the first round till well past the final bell. Yesterday’s bout against Edwin De Los Santos left a lot to be desired.

Shakur Stevenson, the almost Superstar boxer, can’t seem to catch a break. While he made history by becoming a three-division champion, he did not feel the need to celebrate. During his post-win interview, he revealed how disappointed he really was with his performance, citing no excuses and no reasons for it. If that isn’t a winner’s mentality, then what is? However, the hate against him doesn’t seem to be dying down, and Stevenson, for one, does not take insults lying down.

Shakur Stevenson just had a bad night

It wasn’t the triumphant celebration of a three-division champion that Shakur had envisioned. “I really don’t care about being a three-division champion,” he admitted with uncharacteristic candor. “I had a bad performance tonight, that’s all I’m really focused on.” We all have that moment when we are down in the dumps. Subsequently, he even took to his social media account to try and rectify the situation. He wrote that even though he did not give it his 100% last night, he was not going to make any excuses. In doing so, he made it a point to hit out at his haters.

‘Sugar’ went on to add, “One day they wit u next day they hate I love it 21-0 see y’all next time out.” There was a palpable acknowledgment of a less-than-ideal night, yet no room for excuses. As the boos rained down, a defiant Stevenson faced the music. “Oh yeah if u don’t wanna watch don’t fucking watch Y’all can’t break me and a bad night don’t make me,”  he declared defiantly in the same tweet. However, he was the epitome of a good sportsman. He acknowledged Edwin’s remarkable performance.

A Surprising Twist in the Ring

Surprised by his lackluster performance, which is quite unlike ‘Sugar’, an interviewer enquired about a possible issue with his left hand. The southpaw dismissed any talk of hindrances, stating, “I don’t got nothin’ to say about that. I don’t make no excuses. It happens. We go through a lot as a fighter. I’m good.”

Subsequently, amidst the disappointment, Shakur credited his opponent, De Los Santos recognizing the challenges he posed. “He’s got some punching power. He’s got good little defense and he’s a little tricky. He grabbed on the inside and stopped me from punching. He’s a good fighter,” remarked the Newark native.

In the aftermath of a lackluster performance, Stevenson refrained from setting his sights on future targets, acknowledging that he needed to address the shortcomings of the night. “I feel bad about the performance. I’ll work on a lot of things and come back,” he admitted dismally.
