Who? The testy poser has been keeping the stew hot for some time now. Who is it that Ryan Garcia is finally going to fight? A way out appeared in sight. But it only vanished into thin air. Now, the fast pace of developments has only added to the mystery. Who has been replaced by “What?”
After dropping Devin Haney, Rolando Romero, and Jose Ramirez, it seems like ‘KingRy’ has a new target. So far, so good. But it appears the 140-pound division doesn’t want to let go of its new-found fascination with rolling the dice. Rolando Romero, perhaps nursing the rejection wounds, went on a counterstrike. Earlier today, the WBA light welterweight champion made a bold announcement, revealing his intention to pursue a new opponent. So far, so good. But therein lie the seeds that could germinate into a new quandary overall. Seemingly, Garcia and Romero have called out the same person. Undeniably, there would be only one question looming over the minds of scores of fans and followers: What?

Panning Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy promotions Rolando Romero denounced the entire team for messing around with his and the entire boxing community’s time. “F**k Princess Ryan Garcia, F**k Oscar de la Fishnets, and f**k DAZN, the shittiest streaming network out there, for wasting my time and, more importantly, wasting the entire boxing worlds time,” said the welterweight champion.

Then, rebuking them for the way they conducted their business, he slammed them for sneaking out, without his knowledge, to strike a deal with Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. More so, they went around claiming that they demanded unreasonable compensation: “It’s disgusting to see how you guys do business, then trying to go behind my back offering Pitbull an offer, then claiming I out priced myself. Y’all f**ked up.”
But the twist, as it always happens, came at the end. Rolando Romero announced that he would be fighting Isaac Cruz on Amazon Prime. The streaming giant is the latest entrant to the boxing showbusiness after Showtime’s exit last year. ‘Rollie’ said, “Now it’s Rolly Vs Pitbull on Amazon Prime, the largest network in boxing history. This fight is an explosion.”

The curveball probably follows Ryan Garcia’s call out to ‘Pitbull’. “@isaacpitbullcruz, you know we are trying to make a fight. How about you come show me what you are about? Sign a contract, and let’s see who’s the truth.”

What might intrigue most fans is the reason behind both Garcia and Romero pursuing a boxer, albeit a formidable one, from a division below. The Mexico City-born fighter, only the second man to take Gervonta Davis the whole distance, has yet to fight outside the 135-pound mark. Has the situation reached such a nadir that it’s difficult to find a credible opponent in the light welterweight division? Fans need answers. More significantly, they want to see fights happen.
