“Would Be Fantastic Fight For British Boxing Fans”: Pro Boxer Demands Anthony Joshua To Fight This Fighter In 2024

Anthony Joshua is the man of the hour in heavyweight boxing. Another heavyweight boxer, Johnny Fisher, joined in with this hype. He named a fighter that he’d want to see his British counterpart take on in 2024.

‘AJ’ has bounced back from the slump he was experiencing since his title loss to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021. He undertook three fights in 2023 alone and won them all with a clear show of prowess. As he envisions his way to becoming a three-time world champion this year, multiple opponent propositions have emerged for him. One among them remains a current world champion, and Fisher too demands it.

Anthony Joshua Could Revive British Boxing

Ever since the Saudis entered the boxing world, every fighter has been batting for a headliner in the Kingdom. Among them is ‘AJ’ who has already fought in the Middle Eastern country and will fight again this year. However, the absence of massive fights in English arenas has prompted the resident boxer of the country to suggest that Joshua could bridge the gap. The opponent for this undertaking, Fisher suggests, should be the WBC champion, Tyson Fury. “Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in Great Britain,” noted the undefeated fighter to Boxing Social.

Fisher, who has his February fight against an undisclosed opponent in Las Vegas, added, “That would be fantastic for British fight fans. It’s brilliant that these fights are happening in Saudi Arabia but there is now a gap where these fights are being made over here. We need a big one in England.” However, he is well aware of how difficult it is to get AJ vs. Fury rolling. “Joshua might wanna fight Hrgovic for the IBF title, but at the end of this year, we’ll finally get to see Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua. If they come through their respective tests.”

Both AJ and Fury have some of the biggest fights of their career slated to happen in the coming months. Once those happen, there is a possibility for them to face off against each other.

A busy calendar for AJ and Tyson Fury

A few days ago, it was announced that AJ will fight the former UFC champion, Francis Ngannou, on the 8th of March as a part of the ongoing Riyadh season. In light of this announcement, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, disclosed that he’s looking at his fighter taking up three bouts this year. One among them remains a clash for the IBF title. While the title is currently held by Oleksandr Usyk, the Ukrainian fighter is to fight Tyson Fury on February 17th, in a historic, undisputed championship clash.

However, a rematch clause in their agreement has nudged fans to believe that the mandatory challenger for the IBF title, Filip Hrgovic, would take over the belt once it’s vacated. While Otto Wallin remains second in line on the IBF rankings, his loss to AJ in December will perhaps bump the latter to his position. This allows AJ to fight Hrgovic, bringing him closer to the IBF title, a bout that Hearn suggests could happen in the summer.
