Through various twists and turns after failing to get his much-desired rematch against Dmitry Bivol, Canelo Alvarez decided to fight Jermall Charlo first. However, due to some personal reasons, Charlo pulled out of the fight. And now the Mexican boxer is all set to face his younger twin, Jermell Charlo. The fight is scheduled for September 30th at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
However, Canelo’s last three fights haven’t been very convincing and left a lot of fans worried about him not possessing the same strength as he once did. Thus, this fight is pivotal for him to once again stake his claim in the sport. Recently, Erickson Lubin discussed how Charlo stands a chance of defeating the champion in the upcoming bout.

Erickson Lubin, who previously fought for the WBC super welterweight title in 2017, shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated fight. Recently, as Lubin spoke with Fight Hub TV, he praised Jermell Charlo for his IQ. He stated, “I feel like people sleep on Charlo’s IQ. He has a real high IQ”. He added that if the Mexican champion shows a performance to his previous ones, then Charlo will successfully pull off a win.
However, if the undisputed super middleweight champion shows off his prime performance, then Lubin has no doubts about who the winner of the fight will be. He said, “If Canelo shows up like Canelo and he has great upper body movement, great power, great IQ, I feel like he’ll dominate the fight if he shows up as that person. But if he shows up anything less than that, then Charlo has a chance.” It seems that according to Lubin, the outcome of this fight is more based on whether Canelo appears at his best or not.

As the interview went further, the interviewer asked him how does he see the fight going in Charlo’s favor. To this Lubin stated that Charlo is “focused” and that “he’s always fighting.” He pointed out how Charlo fought until the very end. He stated, “He’s fighting until the last bell.”
He went further, adding, “So he’s always giving himself a chance for a knockout and he has a good IQ so he switches it up.” He brought up the rematch between Charlo and Brian Carlos Castano. Lubin explained, “Like with Brian Castano, he switched it up to the second fight and ended up with a knockout.”

He expounded that if Charlo can spot any “flaws” in Canelo’s style, he can “capitalize on”, and then, “he’ll definitely take advantage of it.” Lubin himself has faced Charlo, so it is understandable that he understands the boxer a great deal from personal experience.
