Klitschko said, “Honestly I was, I was thinking like I should… just take Tyson Fury and tweet – ‘ last dance?’, since he wants to retire and we… uh, supposed to have this rematch, and then I was thinking about it, you know. I didn’t do it because my mind was in totally different or now a different world.”
“But it just you know after getting those news that um he defended the title, and he is, um, retiring, and I wish him the best. Uh, but I was really thinking I should… send this I should tweet this – ‘last dance ?’”
Klitschko felt that if his attention wouldn’t have been diverted, he would call out for a rematch that they missed in the past.
The rivalry between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury
Tyson Fury and ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ faced each other in 2015. Fury won the fight by a decision and also snatched away Klitschko’s titles.
‘The Gypsy King’ impressed the boxing fans as he defeated the Ukrainian legend and became the new heavyweight king.
Later, Klitschko challenged Fury for a rematch which Fury couldn’t deny. Both the fighters agreed on a rematch and the boxing fans were excited about the same.
Unfortunately, Fury took a sudden leave from the sport due to personal reasons. Therefore, the rematch between Fury and Klitschko remained only in the dreams of the boxing fraternity.
Fury’s retirement
Years after his comeback, Fury didn’t let his fans down as he went on to bag what he lost.
During this time, he defeated several champions, significantly Deontay Wilder, who was undefeated until Fury knocked him out.
Well, after achieving the throne of the heavyweight division, Fury decided to bid farewell to the sport after his last fight in Wembley, because of which Klitschko’s wish to fight Fury in a rematch couldn’t be fulfilled.
