However, he had to go through battles in his family, as he once revealed that there was no one left to take care of him. In a resurfaced video, Mayweather details his childhood and all its trials and tribulations. He stated that he was forced to go to the Olympics by himself due to his dad being in prison while his mother became addicted to drugs. “My mother being on drugs, Dad going to prison, me just going to the Olympics by myself. Seven of us in one bedroom, ” he said.
Moreover, he added that he had to drop out of high school due to problems at home, which turned out to be a great decision for him as he became a millionaire just six months after dropping out.” I said you know what I left school within 6 months. I was a millionaire,” he added.
Despite having a tough childhood, Mayweather managed to overcome it to become one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport. Moreover, he even managed to garner wealth beyond imagination as he rose to the top of boxing’s summit.
Floyd Mayweather was used as a shield by his father during a shootout
In an interview with the BBC, Mayweather’s father revealed how he once used his son as a human shield to save himself. He claimed that he was in an altercation with ‘Money’s’ maternal uncle Baboon, who wanted to kill Mayweather Sr. However, this was prevented after Mayweather was used as a shield, resulting in his father only getting shot in the leg.

“I used my man (baby Floyd) because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be here today. I was still shot in the leg. What would you do with a gun on you? Floyd was my only shield, and I got shot with him in my hand. Baboon shot a big old hole in my leg. I’m telling you that it would have been in my head or my chest,” said Mayweather Sr.
If ‘Money’ would have been shot at the time, the world would have been robbed of generational talent. Moreover, this goes to only prove that his childhood was filled with abuse to the extent of his own father using him as a shield.
