Shane Mosley Jr., son of HoF boxer Shane Mosley, is on a five-fight winning streak. In July last year, he made a statement by winning against former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs via unanimous decision. Now, he is in pole position for his first world title shot in the middleweight division. However, he will be discontinuing his journey with his current fight banner Golden Boy Promotions after ten years of working together, according to the press release issued by Mosley’s team. He is now a free agent. Notably, he signed a fight contract with Golden Boy Promotions in 2020.
“I want to thank Golden Boy Promotions for everything they’ve done for me over the years. They’ve been instrumental in getting me to where I am today, and I’m excited for what the future holds as a free agent,” Mosley stated in the press release. Judging by the statement released, there is no bad blood between Mosley Jr. and Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya.
With his decisive win against Jacobs, Mosley Jr. called out Erislandy Lara’s WBA belt, being ranked the number one contender by the sanctioning body. On that note, Jacobs stated, “I’ll be watching the Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia fight very closely. I want the winner, but I’m ready for any of the champions at 160 pounds.”

However, Mosley Jr’s professional career has suffered many bumps along the road. Since he started his professional career, in 2014, he has already faced four losses. His first loss came against Marchristopher Adkins in his first fight, and he faced his second defeat in his twelfth fight against David Toussaint. However, losses against Brandon Adams and Jason Quigley meant that he might not be getting his world title shot anytime soon. However, his win against the now-retired Jacobs has shifted the power dynamics in the middleweight division.
Although Mosley is a middleweight contender, his last fight against Jacobs was at super-middleweight. Even his matchup against Gabriel Rosado in 2022 was also at 168. However, he will now come down to middleweight to fight for world titles.

Luckily for the 22-4-0 fighter, even after suffering defeats without going for the world title at any point of time in his career, all four major sanctioning bodies have ranked him in the top fifteen of the 160-pound weight limit. The WBA has ranked him as the No.1 contender for the title, with Lara being the current title holder. Meanwhile, the WBO and WBC have ranked him third and fourth respectively, with Janibek Alimkhanuly holding the former, and Carlos Adames holding the latter.
