Washing dirty linen in public might work for the optics. But it leaves in its trail stale terms and bad memories. Light Heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali dished out a few details of his sparring session with Canelo Alvarez on a podcast. The undisputed Super Middleweight champion faces Jermell Charlo ten days from now at the T Mobile Arena. But was Elbiali under the impression that the arrows he shot would return quietly to the quiver? If nothing else, it was an open invitation for a snapback. The Mexican icon’s camp didn’t miss it either.
32-year-old Cairo-born Ahmed Elbali’s record stands at twenty-four fights, out of which he won twenty-three and lost one. Eighteen of his victories came through knockouts. Al Haymon‘s PBC, which incidentally signed up for a three-fight deal worth $100 million with Canelo Alvarez, reportedly manages him. So he spoke to the hosts at the ‘And Still Podcast.’ @AccordToBoxing shared a clip of the show yesterday.

Referring to the footage they had seen earlier, the hosts shared with Elbiali how he appeared to dominate Alvarez while sparring. Calling it one of the worst days, ‘The Egyptian’ shared that it felt like the Mexican legend had slacked up a bit. Both physically and mentally, given the time he had spent in the sport, it became apparent that he had grown tired of boxing, though he clarified that it was under no circumstances due to any adverse reasons.
More so, he faced multiple injuries. Elbali said, “…imagine sparring a world champion of this caliber, of his legacy, and in the third-fourth round, he’s like, I’m tired. …I’m tired. This I can’t right now. I’m like, f**k bro …..I swear to God, …oh 100%, bro, they just stopped sparring because he’s tired…..”
However, as it turned out, perhaps Eddy Reynoso came across the tweet and posted his response early this morning. Terming it a ‘good joke,’ the ace trainer highlighted why giving chances to wannabes to join the sparring sessions with established champions remained a cumbersome affair. They receive preferential treatment. However, once they exit the precincts of the camp, they feel like they can say anything they think.
very good joke coming from a sack of potatoes, that's why it's so complicated to give opponents the opportunity to spar with champions, because they treat them well in the ring and they think they can, so they come back talking shit! 👊🏼👊🏼 https://t.co/O0F7dZfOW6

On YouTube, the podcast upload date is December 7, 2022. Hence, it might puzzle many fans why it has resurfaced now. The match with Jermell Charlo, Canelo Alvarez’s sixty-fourth career bout, is barely a few days away. Ever since he lost the battle to Dmitry Bivol last year, the subsequent performances against Gennady Golovkin and John Ryder have only bred talks of a sinking show.
