The boxing promoter, Lou DiBella posted a tweet about the controversial recent fight between two young boxers, Liam Wilson and Emanuel Navarrete. The fight took place on February 3, for the vacant WBO super-featherweight title in Australia. It was won by Navarrete as he stopped Wilson in the ninth round.
Lou DiBella is quite famous for putting out his opinions on a variety of things. He obviously thought that it wasn’t a fair fight for Wilson and took his disappointment straight to Twitter.
Many think that Liam Wilson was robbed of his super-featherweight title against Emanuel Navarrete. Because of the 27-second countdown in the fourth round, which a lot of people claimed was not at all fair to Wilson. The fans were obviously upset with the result.

But as usual, not all fans thought the same, as some claimed that the punch was thrown by Wilson when Navarrete was already on the ground, hence it was an illegal punch. So it’s only fair if he got extra time to recover. Some fans also compared the fight with Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. As many think Wilder got robbed but a couple of months ago.
Fans’ reactions to the fight, Liam Wilson vs. Emanuel Navarrete
One of the fans supported Lou’s perspective and sided with Wilson on the matter. They said that Navarrete intentionally spit out the gum shields in order to buy time and the match should have ended right then and there, it shouldn’t have been allowed.
I’m with Lou here we all know guys spit there gum shields out on the floor to buy time sometimes but not normally at 9 or this blatant he wasn’t ready to fight so should of been stopped.

Gavin McDonnell, a British professional boxer, also posted his comment on the matter and said that the match should have been stopped. And he’d be really mad if he was standing in Wilson’s shoes.
Should been stopped. Crazy I would be absolutely fuming if I was Liam

Another fan said that the match should have stopped the moment the gum shields touched the ground. They also agreed that the fight was unfair to Wilson.
the moment he spat the gum shield out, on purpose, at the count of 9, it should have been waved off

But one fan took a step back and tried to scrutinize the whole situation.

The fan said that everyone is focusing on just one aspect of it, as Wilson punches him when Navarrete was down. So the referee had a reason to give him a break, and he didn’t even neglect the mouthpiece, instead, the referee tried to start the action again as soon as possible.
Lots of issues here. Can’t just pick one and go with it. Feels like you are just ignoring the others.
He got hit when he was down. Ref could reasonably have warned him and given a break for that.
Ref didn’t rinse off the mouthpiece. He was trying to speed up return to action— oldstylin (@oldstylin) February 4, 2023
One of the fans disagreed with Lou. He said that the knockout was a bigger hindrance for him than the extra time.
The stoppage was even the bigger issue for me…

Another comment dealt with the illegal punch as they pointed out how Emanuel’s gloves were still touching the canvas when he was punched.
Wilson Illegal punch while Emmanuel gloves are on the canvas

And one fan said that the same exact thing happened in the fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. And nobody talks about that.

The same happened with Tyson Fury vs Wilder. Why isn’t anyone talking about that. Wilder should be 2-0-1 against him

Lou DiBella demanded a rematch as he clearly thinks that Wilson was robbed of his belt.
