Is Mike Tyson risking too much for a comeback, or is this the fight fans need?

The comeback of Mike Tyson is getting overshadowed by the rising concerns about his health. The American fighter’s return to the squared circle has been hotly debated, and many have pointed out his age and absence from the professional boxing scene for close to two decades. However, their worries have been compounded by the rumors of a lack of conformity with drug tests before their fights.

Tyson, 58, and Jake Paul will try to put on a show on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington when they will clash in the main event. Before that happens, the two should be subjected to drug testing to ensure the fairness and safety of both fighters. But the statements from Victor Conte have raised some eyebrows.

What have Victor Conte and Mike Perry claimed about the testing process?

Conte, 74, turned to his X handle and pointed out how ‘Iron Mike’ had openly admitted to taking testosterone. He also enquired whether the former world champion had been granted a TUE exemption from the Texas Commission, which is overlooking the fight. He further wrote, “This fight may be great entertainment but it could also be a recipe for disaster for the health of Tyson… If there has been no random drug testing for either fighter then this event could possibly end in a way that nobody wants 2 see happen.”

Therefore, the former BALCO founder’s argument centers on random testing, which can bring any wrongdoings to light. But according to him, there seems to be a lack of transparency. His concerns came to the limelight when Mike Perry made a startling admission regarding his fight with ‘Problem Child’. The former UFC fighter disclosed he wasn’t subjected to drug testing.

In addition, Perry, 33, gives a push to some speculations without making a direct claim. He said, “They tested me for all my fights except for the Jake Paul fight… If he’s [Jake Paul] on some sh-t, it’s so good, they can’t test for it anyway.” But what has the Texas Commission to say about the whole development?

Have an interesting take?

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation confirmed, according to multiple reports, that both fighters would be subject to mandatory drug testing before entering the ring. Given the flight’s professional nature, mandatory drug testing was always on the cards. What’s more? Tyson, at 50-6, will have to pass additional medical tests, such as EKG and EEG, to get a green light to fight.

Interestingly, Paul, at 10-1, has also revealed that there would be a “big panel drug test” from the Texas Commission. So, both fighters are set to undergo drug tests before their high-voltage fight. But the skepticism around the same remains.
