September 14 is a day of tests. As he steps into the ring, young Edgar Berlanga will face the grandest scrutiny of his eight-year-old career. September 14 will also be the day that will check the star power of Canelo Alvarez. The ‘face of boxing’ has been reeling under criticism for some time. Instead of stars like David Benavidez or Terence Crawford, he’s facing a relatively unfamiliar Edgar Berlanga.
Now, if that wasn’t enough, the show squares off against the might of UFC 306. The Sean O’Malley–Merab Dvalishvili-headlined ‘Noche UFC’ event happens around the same time as the Alvarez-Berlanga title clash. With the announcement of the pay-per-view prices of the T-Mobile Arena show, to many fans, the situation might appear a bit challenging. Rick Glaser shared his inputs on the subject. It didn’t take much before several users joined and shared their viewpoints.

The veteran boxing insider revealed, “The #Canelo–#Berlanga PPV is priced at 89.99.” He suggested that at this rate he might have to resort to ‘illegal streaming’. For the steep cost, in many ways, that might be the best measure he could undertake to express his gratitude to Al Haymon, Rick Glasser humored.
The #Canelo–#Berlanga PPV is priced at 89.99. At this ridiculous price I may sacation the thievery of the PPV, would be my way of thanking #AlHaymon!!! 😆😁😂 #Boxing

The price of the Alvarez-Berlanga feature follows in the footsteps of the Cinco de Mayo match against Jaime Munguia: $89.99. Incidentally, talking about the overall PPV buyouts from the May 4 event, Rick Glaser suggested that if the rumored sales, which hovered between 500,000 and 550,000, were true, then the boxing fans might be in for an exciting time.
Given the reported fight purse of $35 million, such a low-key PPV sales doesn’t bode well for Canelo Alvarez. So the situation might push him for a matchup with either Crawford or Benavidez to ensure the hefty purse that he has been receiving continues. But then, on the other hand, to fight either ‘Bud’ or ‘The Mexican Monster’, Canelo Alvarez has suggested a reported price quote of $150 million to $200 million.

As expected, the news drew some acute reactions from the fans and followers. Let’s check what some of them had to say.
This fan expressed their disappointment with the matchup. Finding it unappealing, they admitted they wouldn’t even bother watching it for free through illegal streaming! “That fight isn’t even interesting enough to illegally stream,” they said. The next one twisted Edgar Berlanga’s surname to ‘Bumlanga’. Considering Canelo Alvarez is fighting an opponent of ‘The Chosen One’s caliber, they found the reported PPV price rate absurd. This is what the fan said: “That’s crazy, especially fighting Bumlanga 🤦🏻♂️.”
Likewise, the next user doubted whether Berlanga would even survive the early rounds. They highlighted how the fight is so significantly mismatched. According to them, the Brooklyn-born fighter might be the weakest opponent the super middleweight champion would have had in the last ten years. “You think Berlanga makes it 6? This might be the worst opponent Canelo has faced in over a decade,” the user said.

Displaying a lack of interest in the Canelo Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga match, the next follower suggested sticking with the exciting UFC 306. They said, “Will be watching UFC INSTEAD.” But through the stream of derisions, a Canelo Alvarez fan finally emerged. They will buy the PPV, but they might purchase it for others as well. “I’m buying it, Viva Canelo, the face of boxing; I might also buy it for a relative also,” said the follower.
Stacked against so many challenges, the September 14 might prove the litmus test for Canelo Alvarez’s star power.
