Hands down, Tyson Fury is the greatest modern-day Heavyweight boxer to grace the square ring. He has defeated the likes of Derek Chisora, Otto Wallin, and Wladimir Klitschko. However, one name stands out from the crowd. Who is that? Deontay Wilder! Perhaps no one presented a challenge to Fury quite like the ‘Bronze Bomber.’ To put it into perspective, the ‘Gypsy King’ had to fight Wilder three times to prove his superiority. Yet, the boxing world is not convinced Fury is the better fighter.
The WBC Heavyweight champion of the world faced the hard-hitting Wilder for the first time in December 2018. The fight resulted in a draw and started a rivalry that lasted three years and two more fights. Eventually, Tyson came out victorious in the trilogy, but controversy followed each encounter between the two. Wilder, fans, and some experts accused Fury of cheating. Transitioning to today, the same accusations from fans resurfaced when Fury took to Instagram to celebrate the anniversary of his win against the ‘Bronze Bomber.’

Post from Tyson Fury reignites alleged cheating accusations
Fury shared a screenshot of a banner image from WBC’s latest article in his recent Instagram post. It’s a freeze frame of the exact moment Fury succumbed to Fury’s devastating power. Alongside the image, Fury wrote in the caption, “#ONTHISDAY I sp*nked this skinny legged, spaghetti-hoop – BUM.” As boxing fans came across the post, acquisitions of old cheating rumors permeated the comment section.

One user wrote, “You mean when you lowered your fists in your gloves?” Allegedly, Fury had positioned his fists dangerously near the wrist wrap of the gloves. Fans had claimed doing this helped him land harder blows on Deontay Wilder. However, such claims have since been debunked by experts.
Someone else wrote, “I used to think Wilder was making shit up, but something was going on with those gloves.” It’s worth mentioning that before any fight, the organizers, referee, and opposing corners check the gloves thoroughly. So, the chances of tampering with the gloves are nearly impossible.
Like many fans after the fight, this user accused the referee of favoritism. The user wrote, “Wilder fell Fury in round 4, and the referee helped Fury to stand up by giving a very slow count so Fury could get up.” Despite changing the referee for the next fight, Wilder failed to take home the win.

The next user did not accuse Fury of cheating but asserted even Wilder had dropped him twice. The user wrote, “One of the best fights. The skinny leg knocked u down twice.” Notably, Fury got up from both of those knockdowns, leaving Wilder and fans in a state of disbelief. It’s still one of the most iconic moments in Fury’s boxing career.

In the midst of all the acquisitions, few users showed support for the ‘Gypsy King.’ Like this user who wrote, “Fury is the best heavyweight of our era, he needs to beat Usyk then job done as nothing left to prove, but for the sake of British boxing he should fight Joshua then job done.” It’s worth noting that Fury will face Oleksandr Usyk in December in a highly anticipated match.
