Much has been talked about Ryan Garcia and the PED abuse for his fight with Devin Haney, but nothing remains concrete. While there is one side that bats for his innocence, there are certain things that still don’t make sense. Caleb Plant has now cast his doubt about the same, asking the same question that some fans have asked for some time. Why didn’t he fight for his innocence? Why did he make a compromise instead of a courtroom battle?
Garcia, 26, reached an outside-the-court settlement for the PED abuse debacle, decided to accept a year-long ban, and saw the biggest win of his career overturned to a no-contest. Yet, the Victorville native remains vocal about his clean slate. But Plant, 32, has his concerns, which he expressed as he sat down with Fight Hub TV.
When the conversation steered towards the possibility of a rematch between Garcia, at 24-1, and Haney, at 31-0, ‘Sweethands’ disclosed his take on the matter. He believed if Garcia was innocent, he should have gone through the due process of a court hearing, where he could have presented his case, and could have opted for the defense of supplement contamination, which he was taking a shield behind.

Plant, at 22-2, declared, “You know Ryan had his chance to be able to take it to court and prove himself innocent. But instead, he’d rather take a two-year ban and pay a million dollars or 1.5 million. If you’re so innocent and it’s so easy to prove it. Otherwise, why not go to court? Why not go through the due process and prove yourself innocent like you keep swearing.”

It could be that a court proceeding would have taken the time and then the appeal structure of it could have only added to Garcia’s turmoil. Conor Benn remains the best example of it. However, there are still speculations and doubts about why Garcia did it. Eddie Hearn has a plausible explanation, it seems.
Eddie Hearn reveals the real reason for Ryan Garcia’s PED abuse
Hearn, 45, in a conversation with Andre Ward, laying out his experience of 50 such cases, believed that the lightweight boxer did it to make the weight cut. Garcia was struggling to make the weight on the scales and even had to pay $1.5 million to Haney because of their bet. So, ‘KingRy’ resorted to desperate measures.

The British promoter said, “If I’m honest, knowing [having] been through all these different 50 cases, it would lead me to believe that it was in relation to the weight cut.” Since then, there have been demands for a rematch between Garcia and Haney to rest the rivalry. But it remains to be seen where and when that happens.
