Ever since his victory against Mexican boxer Juan Macias Montiel back in 2021, Jermall Charlo hasn’t stepped back into the ring. Moreover, there have been several rumors of the champion making a comeback. Notably, he was Canelo Alvarez’s first pick between the Charlo brothers. However, ‘Hitman’ backed off from the fight and Jermell Charlo ended up as the opponent of the Mexican icon. Charlo later stated that he wanted his brother to make money from the fight as well and that he would fight Alvarez next.
However, recently, a surprising development occurred shocking the boxing world. The news came out that the Undisputed Middleweight champion is going to fight Jose Benavidez next. Such a response is justified as Charlo was previously slapped by Caleb Plant. This led a lot of fans to believe a Charlo-Plant was imminent. The fight is going to take place on David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade undercard in November.
Recently, a video of Charlo discussing the potential bout with Benavidez surfaced. Charlo confirmed the validity of the fight and stated, “We back. It’s a good fight, let’s do it. I get a chance to relaunch Lions Only.” Moreover, being trained by former world champion Roy Jones Jr, he appeared confident. He boldly stated, “This is going to be the best Charlo you will ever see up to date.”

One fan stated that even though he believes that the fight is going to be “great”, he wants to “see him fight a tune-up first!”.

Someone else chimed in and criticized Jones Jr.’s capabilities as a coach. He stated, “I think RJJ is giving him more of a father mentorship”. Furthermore, he added that even though the former champion is a “horrible coach”, Charlo “needs the old head wisdom”.
