At 58, is Tyson's return to the ring a bold move or a reckless gamble?

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is 19 odd days away from his big night in Arlington, Texas. ‘Iron’ Mike will lock horns with YouTube boxing sensation Jake Paul live on Netflix. In the meantime, some of his statements from a while ago have started trending on social networks. So, what did he say? And what’s all this commotion about ‘Mike Tyson Funeral?’

You see, the thing is, Tyson and Paul appeared in a press conference at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, on May 14th, where the duo answered some questions from fans while, of course, talking trash. A fan’s question sparked an unexpected comment from Tyson about funerals, which led to ‘Mike Tyson Funeral’ trending online as a clip from the press conference resurfaced.

Technically, no. Mike Tyson wasn’t planning Paul’s funeral. However, it was a dig at Paul to scare him straight. While taking questions from the audience, one fan asked the former heavyweight champion about his choice of music in training camp to get him pumped and ready for the fight. In a bid to intimidate Paul, all while answering the question, Tyson made this revelation.

“Funeral music, okay,” Mike Tyson said. However, days later, on May 26, the youngest heavyweight champion suffered an ulcer flare-up during a cross-country flight. This resulted in their fight getting postponed from July to November 15th. While this caused a stir in the boxing world, causing many to worry about his health, Tyson remains adamant in his resolve.

Despite the health scare, Tyson has insisted that he is doing fine and would knock Jake Paul’s head off. While Tyson’s assurance has done a shoddy job of convincing everyone, it sure has the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations convinced who is sanctioning this bout as a professional one.

Days away from the cross-generational bout, video streaming platform Netflix, who will make their debut into boxing through the fight next month, announced a three-part documentary series, ‘Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson.’ It promises to give fans an intimate look into the duo’s training camps and the stuff they have put themselves through in preparation.

After a trailer was dropped for the series, however, Tyson left everyone in shock with his grim statement about his upcoming fight. “This is really big for me if I win, I’ll be immortal. If I do it bad, I don’t want to die in a hospital bed, I want to die in the ring,” the 58-year-old said, according to a report from The Mirror.

That said, the upcoming bout is promising to be a sold-out affair, even though Mike Tyson has distressed many of his hardcore fans with his return to the ring at 58. His comments about listening to funeral music might not be true, but his intention to send Paul in one seems legit. Share your predictions for the fight.
