Terence Crawford is one of the most dominant welterweights of recent times. The WBO champ often makes the headlines because of his performances, but other times, he’s in the news for his statements regarding his rivals. Earlier this year, Crawford was in the news when he took a dig at the p4p king, Canelo Alvarez.

‘Bud’ has also praised Canelo on many occasions. However, his comments on the undisputed super-middleweight king sparked some controversy.

That said, let’s take a look at what Crawford actually said about Canelo.

Speaking to SiriusXM Boxing, ahead of his match with Shawn Porter, he said, “When you look at Canelo’s career, it’s like he’s shied away from the black fighters.

“I think the black fighters give him the most problems.”

He further added, “He’s shied away from Jermall Charlo and (Demetrius) Andrade for a long time.” (h/t Boxing Insider)

Apart from this, Crawford even fired at Alvarez over the pound-for-pound status.

Is Canelo Alvarez hand-picking his competition?

Canelo, in his stellar career, has confronted the likes of fighters like Floyd Mayweather, Erislandy Lara, Daniel Jacobs, and more. And he’s emerged victorious against all of these opponents except for ‘Pretty Boy.’

It’s clear that Alvarez hasn’t avoided any kind of fighter and he’s always looked to line himself up against some big names of the game.
