Founded in 1922 by Nat Fleischer, The Ring Magazine has long been regarded as the “Bible of Boxing.” For decades, it set the standard for boxing journalism, delivering in-depth coverage, rankings, and editorial insights. However, the magazine’s fortunes waned in the late 20th century, leading to its purchase by boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya in 2007. Under De La Hoya’s stewardship, The Ring experienced a partial resurgence, though it struggled to maintain relevance in the digital age.

Alalshikh had purchased The Ring Magazine earlier this year from the head of Golden Boy Promotions. The recent acquisition by HE Turki Alalshikh marks a new chapter for the publication. “Earlier this week, I finalized a deal to acquire 100% of The Ring Magazine,” said HE Turki Alalshikh in his Instagram post.

Oscar De La Hoya confirmed that he had sold it for $10 million, which is $3 million higher than the price he originally bought the publication for. He also emphasized the fact that Ring will operate in an independent fashion despite the merger – with no ties to the Riyadh session. A team of independent panelists and talented writers, covering all aspects of boxing will operate the publication. HE Turki Alalshikh’s aim is to elevate the prestige of the Ring Magazine to its old glory.
