Cruz connected with some good punches in the very first round, as the round ended with Cruz slipping and falling to the ground. Davis started out slowly, unable to land. Cruz kept up the pressure, throwing with bad intentions for the first three rounds. Davis began looking comfortable by the end of round three. Davis turned into a matador trying to control the ‘Pitbull’ as he came charging in.

‘Tank’ caught his rhythm and began showing his hand speed and movement. From the 4th round onwards, Davis kept getting better as the rounds progressed. By the 7th round, Davis took control of the center of the ring and turned the pressure on Cruz, who slowed down considerably. Cruz surged in the later rounds, but it was too little, too late for the Mexican.
The fight went the distance, and the judges scored the fight, 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 to declare the winner by unanimous decision, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Davis then described how and when he hurt his hand in the fight. “Yeah, you know, coz he’s a shorter fighter so I was throwing down and I hit him on top of the head. So I hit my knuckle and I messed it up. But I couldn’t really throw it like affective, the whole fight.” Despite suffering such a handicap during the fight, ‘Tank’ managed to secure the win.
