As Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal exchanged heated words and tensions soared in Anaheim, one man fueled it further. Nick Kohring, an explosive personality inside and outside the ring, tested ‘Gamebred’s nose as he floated a jab. He then also took on Jorge Capetillo and unleashed some slaps and blows. Soon, the Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal 2 presser was engulfed in the chaos of flying punches.

But who is the man behind the brawl that seized headlines and made waves on the internet? It seems the American fighter is used to causing chaos and ruckus, and is currently riding high on motivation due to his career upturn.

Kohring, 33, grew up in Stockton and spent his initial years at Valley Springs. He then returned to Stockton and found a calling in combat sports. In a conversation with the Fight SZN Podcast, Kohring disclosed that he kicked off his amateur career at 16 and made his pro debut at 19. Within 6 months, he went 3-0 and landed an opportunity to appear in the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter Season 17 in 2012.

However, Luke Barnatt handed him a defeat to Kohring, and he bowed out of the tournament in the entry round. That didn’t stop Kohring’s juggernaut, as the Stockton native had racked up 12 wins in his first 14 wins in different promotions, such as GKO and Gladiator Challenge. He was linked with top MMA promotions until he had a rough run with the authorities, which ate up his 3 years.

Kohring’s troubles with authorities

The 13-2 record holder was sentenced to prison on the charges of felony in February 2019. He also had to go through legal proceedings in 2016 when the Calaveras County deputies arrested him because of his connection to a bar brawl. It wouldn’t be until July 2022 that he would make a return.

Kohring would resume his MMA training upon his release in 2022, join the Nate Diaz Academy, and become Diaz’s training partner. ‘Killshot’ would make a stunning comeback, fighting under Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat, where he only needed 21 seconds to bag a win. The MMA fighter had again put himself on the MMA map so that others could take notice. But Kohring would not stay away from controversy for long.

When Kohring scuffled with Logan Paul

Last year, when Diaz made his professional debut in boxing against Jake Paul, emotions took over him as he watched the action up close. Logan Paul, who was in the stands watching his brother, clashed with the fans as the action unfolded. The clips would later reveal that Kohring was at the center of a brawl.

The altercation with the WWE star came around the same time when he was planning his career move. He was in talks with the Professional Fighters League, but those didn’t materialize. Instead of waiting around, Kohring switched to bare-knuckle boxing.

Kohring shook the bare-knuckle world as he knocked out Kyle McElroy within 30 seconds of the first round. Speaking of his debut at BKFC 59, he said, “I feel like the sky’s the limit for me with BKFC. I want to get back in there, knock a few guys out, and go on a title run.”

Whether Kohring will continue his BKFC run or make a return to the MMA world is a pressing question. But one thing is sure: Whichever ring or arena he will fight in, he will bring in carnage.
