Coaches and trainers play a very vital role in any sport, especially in the game of boxing. The one-to-one relationship masters the art and showcases the beauty of trading leather in the jam-packed arenas. However, nowadays, big names like Anthony Joshua and star lightweight contender, Ryan Garcia, are making headlines for changing their coaches ahead of their high-profile clashes.

Recently, in an interview with ‘Behind the Gloves’, the former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua opened up on his new trainer. He said, “Angel Fernandez right now. In London He’s been in my camp for the last three years anyway he’s been at the last three of my world championships.”

However, the British star has started the hunt for a new trainer just after his humiliating loss against the Ukrainian stalwart Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021. Since then, he has explored different trainers in the world of boxing.

Earlier, the boxing speculators assumed Anthony Joshua has joined the undefeated legend, Floyd Mayweather, for the upcoming rematch. As the former champion was training under the guidance of ‘The Pretty Boy’. However, it was just a brief training session.

What problems did Anthony Joshua face with the former coach?

AJ is a big-picture guy in the heavyweight division. However, his performance against WBO’s mandatory challenger, Oleksandr Usyk, was heavily criticized. His technique and skills were not up to the mark to defend WBA, IBF, and WBO titles in the Tottenham Hotspur arena.

Interestingly, the underdog Usyk dominated the show with his phenomenal agility and turned the direction of the verdict in his favor. He won the bout via unanimous decision and highlighted the drawbacks of Joshua’s art.

After the fight, AJ took a bold step and left his longtime coach, Rob McCracken. With whom he was training since the days of his Olympic conquest. However, as of now, after testing the number of coaches, he is back with his co-trainer Angel Fernandez, whom he has promoted to the position of a head coach in the camp based in Britain.
