The world champion Floyd Mayweather fought a young Canelo Alvarez many years ago on the 14th of September, 2013. It took place in Las Vegas. Both fighters were undefeated until that point. They fought at a 152-pound catchweight. Mayweather earned $41.5 million for this fight. He won in a 12-round majority decision. Although Alvarez lost the fight, everyone lauded his mettle in fighting Mayweather.
As ‘Cinnamon’ gears up for his upcoming bout with Jermell Charlo, he is the burning subject of discussion. Amongst the news, speculations, and predictions about his upcoming fight, an intriguing entry grabs headlines. The propagator of this news is none other than Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. In a revealing interview, he talked about the mindset of wealthy fighters, comparing Canelo Alvarez to billionaire boxer Floyd Mayweather.

What qualities do Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez share?
Ellerbe emphasized a unique mindset sets the elite fighters like Canelo Alvarez apart from the rest. According to Ellerbe, it’s not just about the money; it’s about the relentless drive to be the best, even when you’ve seemingly reached the pinnacle of success. This mindset, he suggests, is what makes Canelo Alvarez a mirror image of Floyd Mayweather. Additionally, Canelo is getting a $100 million dollars guaranteed purse in his upcoming fight as well.
As Leonard said, “What really impresses me about him is that only one or two people can speak to this. This man has made a couple hundred million dollars, and he’s still motivated to get up and come out here to entertain for the fans at the highest level. Think about it, Sean. If you had made 300 to 400 million, what would your mindset be?”
Ellerbe added, “That kind of stuff reminds me of Floyd Mayweather. It’s like those guys are self-motivated. You don’t have to like them, but in this fight, I think both guys have something to prove. Not that they have to, but they want to.”
Has Mayweather finally started appreciating ‘Cinnamon’?
Floyd Mayweather, once a critic of Alvarez, now backs him. He addressed the “cherry-picking” claims against both of them. Mayweather said, that Canelo has proven himself. He’s fought great fighters and moved up in weight. However, Mayweather once denied Alvarez being the P4P best, favoring Gervonta Davis over him. Now, he seems to value Alvarez’s skills and accomplishments much more.

As he said, “What I have to say to Canelo is this, you proved yourself already. You’ve fought a lot of great fighters, you’ve tested yourself, you went up in weight to numerous weight classes. Like myself, and other fighters throughout the years…Canelo is a great fighter.”
