Claressa Shields is one of those few athletes whose multifaceted talents have garnered her countless fans and their admiration. Besides her prowess inside the ring, Claressa ‘the GWOAT’ Shields is a huge proponent for advancing women in the combat world. Despite that fact, Shields has found herself in several feuds with other female combatants in recent times. One of her latest back-and-forths involves Cris Cyborg, a prominent name in MMA.

The pair is currently embroiled in an X (formerly Twitter) feud, which started with a simple tweet from Cyborg. Here is the sauce – Shields called out Cyborg for an MMA fight. While the MMA prizefighter seemed open to the showdown, with the condition that the fight happens at 145lbs. Shields, however, did not agree with the weight because she preferred to fight at 154 lbs. Unsurprisingly, Cyborg hit back at Shields with her better payout numbers, suggesting the fight would not happen at 154lbs. This prompted Shields to send a stern warning to Cyborg while making a difficult confession. 

Claressa Shields claims she is making seven figures

Taking a shot at Cyborg, ‘the Goat’ Shields turned to X and made a difficult confession. She claimed that women in MMA make way more money when compared to women in boxing. “Say what you want, Women’s MMA is way further than Women’s boxing,” wrote Shields. However, she suggested she is not one of those female boxers because she is making seven figures.

“But I get to my bag and beat tf outta bishes and make 7 figures now,” Shields wrote in her tweet. Shields then diverted her attention to Cyborg and implied she was trying to avoid a fight with her. “It’s a 100 ways to say no and 1 way to yes,” Shields boldly wrote. She went on to directly call out Cyborg, claiming Cyborg is afraid of losing. “If you don’t want to box against me, cause you can’t win, just say that,” wrote Shields chiding Cyborg.

Shields signed a multi-year MMA deal

While on the topic of Shields’ career, it’s worth noting that ‘the Goat’ has signed a multi-year MMA deal. The 28-year-old previously fought in the MMA twice, winning the debut and losing the second. These fights were under PFL’s banner. What’s more, Shields is a prominent figure in female boxing and is aiming to become a multi-sport world champion.

According to a tweet from ESPN MMA, Shields signed a multi-year deal with PFL yet again to continue fighting in MMA. She even expressed her excitement about returning to the octagon during a recent press release. As to when exactly she will fight in the octagon, according to the tweet, people can expect the fight in 2024.

It’s never easy to accept a hard-hitting fact, but Shields did exactly that. What’s more, she did it while calling out her potential opponent in MMA. However, whether the fight will actually happen remains uncertain.
