Taking place just days before the Super Bowl, the bout will be broadcast on ESPN+ in the United States and is scheduled to unfold in Las Vegas. Lopez has 180 thousand followers on the social media platform now owned by Elon Musk. Musk successfully concluded the acquisition of Twitter after a prolonged period of uncertainty marked by indecision, legal disputes, and intense public exchanges. The $44 billion deal was finalized in October 2022, solidifying Musk’s ownership of the social media platform.

Lopez will face Ortiz at the Michelob Ultra Arena in a repeat of the 2015 National Golden Gloves Quarterfinal. Lopez won that bout and eventually the championship as well.

While Musk does not have much to do with the world of boxing other than his rumored cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg, the Meta CEO, fans wonder why Lopez would invite him or if he will even respond to it. Just like this move, his attempt at instigating Terence Crawford also seems to be in vain.

Teofimo Lopez’s last fight was in the WBO junior welterweight category at 140 lbs., securing his title against Josh Taylor. In contrast, Terence Crawford, having fought at 147 in the welterweight division against Spence Jr., is contemplating a move to 154. Trainer Rozier dismissed the likelihood of a match between Lopez and Crawford due to the weight disparity, suggesting it’s unlikely as Lopez is at 140, and Crawford is considering moving up.

Rozier believes Lopez’s verbal challenges might not have significant consequences, given the current trend where fighters across weight classes provoke each other. However, if Lopez moves up to 147, a match with Crawford becomes feasible but involves substantial risk, climbing weight divisions to face the Pound-for-Pound king won’t be an easy task.
