David Benavidez is all set to storm into the boxing ring for the second time in 2021. He is one of the most dominant fighters in the 168-pound frame who has also won the titles twice. However, he doesn’t hold any belt right now.

Although undefeated, Benavidez’s career has been full of trials. One of these trials saw him lose his hard-earned WBC strap.

Per The Ring, ‘El Bandera Roja’ tested positive for benzoylecgonine by the Voluntary Anti Doping Association.

This incident took place when Benavidez was supposed to take on Anthony Dirrell for his title defense. However, he didn’t begin the training camps after he tested positive for the same.

But, a few months later, everything came on track and the young gun took up the ring space against the veteran Dirrell. Giving his best shot in this fight, ‘El Bandera Roja’ won the contest via a KO in round 9.

Benavidez, since then, has only worked on his boxing stint. The youngster has tried to stay out of fight-related controversies.

He is one of the most promising young talents. Benavidez himself knows the same, and he often tries to do what he’s supposed to when he’s inside the ring. That said, he took a mammoth lesson when he tested positive for the banned substance, and since then he’s only looked to fight in the cleanest manner possible.

Alvarez tested positive for clenbuterol in 2018 and Benavidez took a shot at the p4p star over the same recently.

Speaking to BoxingScene, he said, “They’re very lenient on Canelo.”

“They let Canelo do whatever he wants. That’s why he was able to get that short suspension. Suspensions for [PEDs] should be for almost a year or a year-and-a-half. It’s nothing to play with. I think people have to be punished more.”
