After he ended his relationship with BLK Prime Boxing, Adrien Broner, the former WBA champion signed with promoter Don King. Among others, Don King is widely known for promoting Mike Tyson and the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Durán, and Evander Holyfield. Mike Tyson and Don King developed a relationship in 1986; and by 1998 by accusing Don King of stealing a significant part of the financial gain that Tyson made in boxing, ‘Kid Dynamite’ decided to sue the promoter for $100 million while giving rise to one of the most talked-about controversies in Heavyweight boxing.
Don King is currently 91 years old and rarely promotes fighters in boxing. In what Mike Coppinger of ESPN called a “prepared statement”, Don King declared to provide the people with what they wanted after the Broner deal. While King called himself the world’s greatest boxing promoter, he branded Broner as “the bad boy of boxing”. The promoter, who now only offered matches on pay-per-view, is excited to have Broner who looks forward to winning a world title and defending the same in the ring.
