Can Lamont Roach really shock the world by defeating Gervonta Davis, or is it just wishful thinking?

For the third time, the upcoming fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. has been postponed. The fight, initially planned for December 14, reportedly shifted to January but was never finalized. Now, various sources close to the PBC have stated that March 1, 2025, is the new date for the fight.

It is disappointing news for the fans who are desperate to see Tank in action again. However, more than the fans, this constant change in plans must be hurting Lamont Roach, who has had to put aside his WBA super featherweight title defense for the lightweight bout. The WBA allowed Lamont Roach to challenge Gervonta Davis for his 135-pound title without stripping him of his super featherweight title, and these delays seem to be significantly hurting his momentum. However, the 29-year-old is still maintaining a positive attitude in training and promised to knock Tank out when they eventually meet.

It is no secret that Roach is the clear underdog going into the fight. After all, Tank is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world currently. Fans are expecting a one-sided victory for the WBA lightweight champion. However, in an interview with The Boxing Source, the Washington native made it clear that he does not care about doubters and is focusing on his training. “I really don’t care too much for the people who are doubters. Who talk down on the fight um because at the end of the day, I work my way here,” stated Roach.

Roach further stated that he considers himself the best boxer in his division. So, it is time for him to prove himself at a different weight, just like Gervonta Davis. “I think I am the best in the world in my division. Why not go up an away class to show that, I’m a world-class fighter?” It is evident that Lamont Roach is trying to measure up to Tank, who has won world titles in three different weight classes. So, it won’t be easy to measure up to one of the best.

But the 25-1-1 boxer is confident in his abilities and his chances. He stated, “When I win please don’t knock him(Davis). He is a good fighter. It’s just I’m going to be better with that,” and promised a dominating victory.

So, it is just a matter of time before both of these fighters lock horns inside the ring. However, with the constant change of schedule and delays, the PBC has bumped into another problem as their preferred venue has become unavailable.

In October, Gervonta Davis announced that he would be defending his title against Lamont Roach at Toyota Center in Houston. The venue never formally announced the fight and now the fight has been pushed back to March 1, making Toyota Center unavailable for the fight.

On March 1, the Houston Rockets will take on the Sacramento Kings at Toyota Center, forcing the PBC to find a new venue for the event. According to sources, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is being discussed as a possible venue. Tank has a good record at Barclays Center as he defeated Rolando Romero in 2022 at the same venue. The PBC wants to make the fight available as a pay-per-view (PPV) event on Amazon Prime Video and it would like a good venue for that.

In a recent interview with BoxingScene, Former Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe stated that the venue will be announced soon“Stay Tuned. None of these guys can f*** with Tank–not one of them. I don’t want to say anybody’s name, but it’s just a matter of time,” stated Ellerbe confidently.

So, at this point, the only thing we can do is wait. However, with the growing anticipation, the PBC will probably announce the venue possibly next month.
