Very rarely do boxers retire from their professional careers being undefeated. Well, Floyd Mayweather is one of those who holds the distinction of having retired with a boxing record of 50-0. Mayweather has faced many elite-level boxers in his career like Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and Miguel Cotto, among many others, and defeated them easily. Shockingly, ‘Pretty Boy’, has never been knocked down in his professional career from an opponent’s punch.
However, the 47-year-old boxing great still hasn’t cut ties with boxing. He is quite active in the exhibition boxing circuit and is often spotted in the gym, testing out his skills with up-and-coming boxers. Just last month, he squared off against John Gotti III for a rematch and dominated him throughout the fight. Safe to say, even at the age of forty-seven, he still possesses the skills that made him the greatest boxer of his generation.
On that note, a sparring session with Floyd became a humiliating experience for his opponent. FightHype released a video of Floyd toying with his younger opponent in the ring. What’s worse? Mayweather was taunting him throughout the fight. He was teeing off on his opponent while his sparring partner was hitting the air. Floyd Mayweather’s embodiment of boxing’s core philosophy — ‘hit and not get hit’, was on full display in that sparring session. At times, Mayweather was also seen doing a little jig in the boxing ring, while his opponent looked for an opening in the Michigan native’s defense, alas in vain.

It was a brilliant display of footwork and boxing IQ from Floyd Mayweather. Even the crowd gathered at the boxing gym, hooted and hollered every time Floyd landed a barrage of punches on his opponent. To make his opponent look so vulnerable, even though he retired from professional boxing a long time ago, is a testament to his hard work and determination from a very young age that made him the best defensive counter-punching boxer of his generation.
Witnessing Mayweather’s boxing masterclass in the sparring footage on YouTube, some fans couldn’t help but praise his boxing talent, while others felt it was staged.
Is Floyd Mayweather that good or was it all staged?
One fan was in awe of Mayweather’s quick reflexes even at the age of forty-seven. They wrote in the comments, “Don’t matter how good of shape you’re in at 47, your reflexes and quick twitch muscles deteriorate. Yet this man is STILL good enough to play with his food.” Notably, Mayweather has had eight exhibition bouts throughout his career and dominated in each of them. If referees were officiating, he would be declared the clear winner.

Another fan claimed that Mayweather was a “rare breed” who would be missed greatly once he departs from this world. They commented, “It’s actually crazy to be this good at 47….Floyd is a rare breed. When he dies, you best believe the haters will turned into lovers….fake lovers unfortunately.” The fact that Mayweather continues to spar in the gym, and be in shape for exhibition matches is baffling in itself.
Meanwhile, one fan questioned the integrity of the sparring session that Floyd Mayweather was involved in by insinuating that his opponent wasn’t even punching. They highlighted, “The other guy is not even punching.” Now whether Mayweather’s sparring partner was instructed not to throw too many punches at him or he was truly outclassed, will leave it up to you to speculate.
Meanwhile, stunned by Floyd’s boxing prowess, one fan commented, “This dude is the final boss I swear.” Some of the greatest boxers of Floyd’s generation have tried to put a loss on his boxing record, but in vain. If a video game analogy were to be used, a cheat code would be needed to defeat Floyd Mayweather.

One fan claimed that Mayweather signed a contract with the sparring partner, which stopped him from throwing punches. They remarked, “The contract said he can’t fight back.” Notably, Floyd Mayweather does have a huge influence on the professional boxing scene. We must not forget that a referee was replaced midway through his last fight against John Gotti III just because of a bad call.
Nevertheless, do you think the sparring footage is a true reflection of Floyd Mayweather’s talents at 47? Or, do you think that his sparring partner was instructed to go easy on him? Let us know in the comment section below.
