While Juan Francisco Estrada started aggressively occupying the center of the ring, Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez maintained a tall guard and looked for gaps to land his shots. Initially, the 24-year-old relied on his counterpunches and demonstrated excellent accuracy. Soon, it was Bam Rodriguez who controlled the pace of the fight. Finally, a thunderous left hook to the body from Bam did the job near the end of the seventh round and the boxer won the WBC Super-Flyweight title! So, after this KO victory over the champion El Gallo Estrada, who are the five potential opponents Jesse Rodriguez may fight next?

Estrada and Rodriguez had a rematch clause and after the fight ended the 34-year-old, whose retirement is around the corner, desired a second shot. After seven rounds inside the ring against the unbeaten two-division champion, Estrada understood “the mistakes that I made.” Estrada declared, “So we’ll take that rematch and there’s no doubt we’ll win that rematch.” In that case, a second fight against Estrada looks inevitable for Jesse Rodriguez. However, a rematch against Sunny Edwards is also quite possible!

In December last year, Rodriguez dominated Sunny Edwards to win the latter’s IBF Flyweight title at Desert Diamond Arena, Glendale. And now Edwards beat Adrian Curiel on the undercard of Rodriguez vs. Estrada. Meanwhile, in an interview with Boxing Social, on being asked if he would like to run it back with Bam one day, Edwards said, “I would love to.” So now that Edwards is back with a win, there is a chance he would call the champion out as ‘Bam’ is currently the man in the Super Flyweight division. But should he wish, Rodriguez may show interest in another champion in the Super-Flyweight division who might be an easy win. Who is that?

At the age of 35, the Mexican boxer Pedro Guevara, the current WBC Interim Super-Flyweight champion is also near the end of his career. So, why not go against Guevara? If Rodriguez fights Guevara with the same maturity he handled Estrada, ‘Bam’ just might put Pedro in a fix too despite the experience of 48 fights the Mexican boxer brings.

But remember at age 24, the sky is the only limit for Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez.

Jesse Rodriguez wants to unify the Super-Flyweight titles

After Jesse Rodriguez knocked out Juan Estrada, he was asked if he had any interest in facing the undisputed super bantamweight champion, Naoya Inoue. While Rodriguez appreciated Inoue, he branded a fight against the same as a “fantasy fight.” Plus, for Inoue vs. Rodriguez to take place, either ‘Bam’ has to move up in weight class or Inoue has to come down. Since Inoue has other plans, it is unlikely that ‘Bam’ vs. ‘Monster’ will happen any soon. Anyway, Rodriguez has an interest in fighting the winner of the upcoming Kazuto Ioka vs. Fernando Martinez.

On July 7th in Japan, Kazuto Ioka will face Fernando Daniel Martinez with the IBF and WBA Super-Flyweight titles on the line. Willing to unify the Super-Flyweight titles, Rodriguez wants the winner of Ioka vs. Martinez soon. Therefore, following his victory over Estrada, Jesse said, “I want the winner of Ioka-Martinez.” So, there is another option for Jesse Rodriguez. But with our knowledge, we believe there is one more opponent ‘Bam’ might want next!

Román González who is ranked second by the WBC and TBRB is another possible name for Jesse Rodriguez. While González has 51 wins from 55 fights, he is a shorter opponent for ‘Bam.’ So, it would not be very difficult for ‘Bam’ to beat González. Plus, the two have sparred each other previously as well. Also, Eddie Hearn has also hinted at setting up the Chocolatito fight for Bam Rodriguez next. So, if he wants, a fight between the two is very much possible. With that said, who do you think Jesse Rodriguez will fight next? Did we miss anyone? Let us know in the comments below.
