Undefeated and undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor retained her belts as she delivered an impressive performance against Delfine Persoon in their recent co-feature bout.

Taylor was taken into deep waters in her most recent fight. Delfine Persoon landed frequently on Taylor, making it a tough night for her.

However, the Irish gladiator bounced back from adversary every single time to claim a dominant victory via a majority decision.

Katie Taylor outclasses Delfine Persoon

Taylor appeared focussed and slick from the very first round. Despite being an undefeated champion, Persoon’s vast experience was assumed to be challenging for the Irish sensation. However, Taylor did not let her emotions flow as she constantly dominated her opponent in almost every single round.

That said, Persoon flexed her skills as she outstruck the champion multiple times. In the final round, the duo indulged in a brutal dogfight, with both women landing significant jabs on each other.

However, Taylor received an upper hand on the judge’s scorecard by a massive margin. At 96-94, 98-93, and 96-94, Katie Taylor remains the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight champion.

Twitter reacts to Taylor vs Persoon

Lance Pugmire hailed the contest as a close-call, citing Taylor’s dominance in the final two rounds as a major element behind her win.

Meanwhile, Chisanga Malata could not believe that Persoon was given 93 over Taylor’s 98 by Victor Loughlin (judge) in the contest. He took to Twitter and expressed his frustration over the call.

Adam Catterall also shared a similar opinion to Malata. He voiced his shock over the numbers provided. “98-93”, he wrote, as a sarcastic dig to the decision.

MMA journalist Ariel Helwani seems thrilled with Taylor’s successful title defense. “Gutsy win for Taylor. That was a great fight,” he wrote.
