Trevor David McCumby was born on September 22, 1992, in Yorkville, Illinois. However, he eventually relocated to Glendale, Arizona. The city is located some nine miles northwest of Phoenix, the birthplace of light heavyweight champion David Benavidez.

According to a few details shared on ‘The Fight Forum’, McCumby’s father was a former Marine who had the distinction of serving as a presidential honor guard. Later, he became a police officer serving in Niles, a town outside of Chicago. It was McCumby Sr. who initiated young Trevor into boxing at age seven, even though state regulations imposed age restrictions for the sport. Over a period of time, the young boxer managed to build a decent amateur record of 127 wins against eleven reversals, it seems.
