David Morrell was born in Santa Clara, Cuba, on September 5, 1998. He got hooked on boxing as a kid just from watching it on TV. His dad was a big part of that early interest, taking him to matches and explaining the ins and outs of the sport. By the time he was around nine, Morrell decided he wanted to take boxing seriously, balancing his training with school.

It didn’t take long for everyone to see he had a knack for it. His amateur career really took off, with standout moments like snagging a gold medal at the India Open International Tournament and racking up an impressive 130-2 record. Those achievements set him up perfectly for his jump into professional boxing, where he’s kept building on his early successes.

David Morrell’s family

David Morrell’s family was crucial in his journey from Cuba to becoming a top boxer. Born in Santa Clara, his parents, Rafael Sr. and Beti Gutierrez, were super supportive of his boxing dreams from the start. However, Rafael Sr. couldn’t make the trip with David and his older brother when they fled Cuba.
