A fight between Unified Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr and WBO champion Terence Crawford might not be taking place as the former now wants to move up a weight class. It was recently revealed that a bout between Spence and fellow contender Keith Thurman has been in the works.
Spence has not competed in the ring since his victory over Yordenis Ugas in April. However, he was recently involved in an accident after his car was hit by an unlicensed driver in December. Many fans have wanted to see Spence and Crawford dish it out for the undisputed championship with talks of fighting 2023 also rumored. Despite this, it looks like the plans have now changed dramatically.

According to reports the bout might take place in April and will be in the junior middleweight division. Spence has competed in the welterweight division but looks to move up a weight class to face Thurman. This means that his titles will not be on the line giving fans some hope about a fight with Crawford.

However, the fans weren’t too keen on this announcement after hearing the fight getting called off multiple times. In addition, they made their intentions about this fight clear as they reacted to this announcement.
Fans furious with Spence vs Crawford being sidelined
One fan clearly stated that nobody cared about this fight and only wanted to see Crawford vs Spence. “No one and I mean no one cares about this fight and if you do I apologize if I offended you.” he wrote
Another fan wondered if Spece was starting to duck Crawford and called the bout with Thurman dumb. “I’m finally beginning to think Spence really is running from Crawford now smh this ish is dumb.” he wrote
A fan claimed that every champion boxer was scared to lose their undefeated status, thus handpicking their matchups. “Everyone scared to lose their undefeated status.” he wrote.

Lastly, one fan called the fight a joke and stated the Spence was indeed ducking ‘Bud’. “Still running scared from Crawford we all see! What a joke.” he wrote.
The fans were certainly not happy as this highly anticipated fight gets sidelined once again. However, fights like these rarely get booked in the modern boxing era, where money and strategic planning of the fighter’s career plays a far greater role in their trajectories than good matchups.
