Ahead of his fight with Canelo Alvarez, Jermell Charlo called himself a lion at the press conference. In this context, besides promising the fans one “hell of a show” on the 30th of September, Charlo believed that the boxing world would appreciate his skills. In addition, he declared that he would be called “great” after his fight with the Mexican boxer.
However, with a miserable performance against Canelo, Charlo lost the fight. And in the wake of his defeat, the American boxer called Canelo “an ox, a motherf****ing beast“. Although ‘Iron Man’ was glad he shared the ring with Alvarez, he also admitted that he could not get to a point where he “could get into my bag like I wanted to, truthfully“. In light of Charlo’s statements and his loss, the WBO Interim Super Welterweight champion Tim Tszyu brutally broke down ‘Iron Man’ vs. Saul.

Given the statements that Charlo delivered before the fight, the boxing world expected he would fight with his heart out against the Undisputed Super Middleweight champion of the world. However, Charlo, who thought he was a lion, greatly disappointed his fans. To be frank, his fight with Alvarez was by and large one-sided. Likewise, while Charlo talked the talk, Tim Tszyu believes the American did not walk the walk against Canelo. As a result, in his recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Tszyu said, “That wasn’t a lion performance for sure. It felt like it was sort of a scared performance.”
“I wouldn’t say smart performance but just a very defensive-minded type. [He was] in there to survive, not in there to win,” Tim added. In this context, Tim claimed that Charlo did not pay heed to his coach too. In his opinion, although Charlo realized that he was falling short, ‘Iron Man’ “didn’t really start doing anything“.

Tszyu claims Charlo did not press
According to Tszyu, “from the first round” itself, Charlo gave up fighting. In his opinion, even when Charlo’s coach asked the American boxer to press, he remained unbothered. As a result, Charlo lost. “His coach was saying, ‘Man, you’re losing the fight, you gotta press’. But he still didn’t press. There was no ring control, there was just moving, running,” Tszyu concluded.
