The Saturday night battle between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury truly embodied the essence of its aptly coined title, ‘The Battle of the Baddest.’ Despite having no prior boxing experience, Francis Ngannou put on a show of a lifetime. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury, the WBC Heavyweight champion, crumbled before Ngannou’s unexpected ring IQ, technical skills, and especially his power. As surprising as Ngannou’s performance was, even more surprising was the split decision win that was given to Tyson Fury.
Moreover, in his attempt to take down Fury, Francis had tried a move on Fury that was labeled illegal. In the later rounds of the electrifying clash, Ngannou tried to land a Superman punch but was immediately stopped. However, in the days following the bout, Ngannou took to Instagram to highlight an illegal elbow Fury landed on him that went unpunished. The ‘Predator’ shared a clip of the incident with a caption that read, “Unlike the Superman punch, this was f**king illegal.” As the boxing world came across the post from Ngannou, they joined the ex-UFC champion in agreement, criticizing the decision, the event, and Fury.

One user asserted despite taking the elbow to the face, it did not faze Ngannou. “You literally looked this elbow in the eye. Didn’t even blink,” the user commented.
Another user boldly suggested if Ngannou had landed the elbow on Fury, he would not survive that. “If Francis did the same, fury would be KO,” wrote the user.
Someone else proclaimed the decision was a robbery, and Ngannou undoubtedly won the fight. The user wrote, “We witnessed the biggest robbery in boxing.”
The next user expressed sympathy with Ngannou’s situation and voiced his thoughts on the fight. “I’m actually so gutted for you, bro… that win was fully robbed from you. You dominated, and we’re going forward the whole fight. People’s champ,” the user commented.
Another user declared that Fury should agree to fight Ngannou in an MMA rematch. The user wrote, “Fury should be a man and agree to a rematch in the octagon!”
The Superman punch from Ngannou
While Fury landed the elbow flush on Ngannou’s face, the Superman punch attempt from Ngannou never landed on Fury. Interestingly, a Superman punch is allowed in boxing as long as rules aren’t broken and the shot lands over the belt. However, an elbow shot is illegal in every shape or form.

Moreover, because Fury’s elbow never saw any consequences and Ngannou’s attempt at a Superman punch was stopped immediately, officials faced criticism. The critics were not limited to the boxing world either; well-known names from other industries came together to call out the event.
