Ahead of the release of Fear, a psychological thriller film, Floyd Mayweather attended a panel discussion titled ‘Facing Fear’ accompanied by Scottie Pippen and Ruby Modine. Mayweather, who is working with Deon Taylor, the director of Fear, for his upcoming docuseries, spoke about his father going to prison when he was only 16. Repeatedly, Mayweather emphasized the idea of not letting his father down and the contribution his father made to his life.

“I was a young kid, and I had a father. I don’t really wanna say it was a fear, just my dad [and] I never wanted to let my father down. Because my dad done so much for me. When I say he bent over backwards, I mean, no matter what my dad did. When he went out and hustled every day in the streets, every day he made sure I got to the gym,” said ‘TBE’, at Deon Taylor’s event ‘Facing Fear’.

Mayweather expects to present his story in ‘The GOAT’, his upcoming docuseries. By the time his father returned from prison, Mayweather had visited the Olympics and even had his own life. When his father finally returned Mayweather was 21 years old and had made a fortune out of boxing. “At a particular time in my career, me and my dad wasn’t seeing eye to eye. We wasn’t seeing eye to eye because when my dad went to prison I was 16. Then eventually I went to the Olympic games at 19 by myself without a trainer from everything that he taught me,” said ‘Money’.

“So, when he came back into my life I was 21. I already had my own house, my own vehicles, and my own lifestyle because I became a man in those five years,” Mayweather added by saying. He was no more the same Mayweather Jr. his father saw when he was 16. In a span of only five years, Mayweather made a name for himself through boxing. However, as Mayweather himself acknowledged, he would not be in his current position had it not been for his father’s teachings.
