Originally, Chris Eubank Jr. was going to face Conor Benn on 8 October last year in the O2 Arena. However, the fight fell through due to banned substances found in Benn’s system ahead of the all-British clash. It prevented the undefeated Essex resident from entering the ring for seventeen months. Fortunately, the National Anti-Doping Panel later allowed Benn to fight outside of the UK. Nevertheless, Benn isn’t out of hot waters entirely yet.

UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed the decision. The hearing for that appeal won’t take place until December or January. What’s more, Benn is coming off a win against Rodolfo Orozco, a Mexican boxer. The fight helped Benn get used to the ring again. Following the fight with Orozco, Eubank and Benn agreed to meet in the ring. But things seem murky as to when and where the fight would happen since Benn is not allowed to fight in the UK. So, in a recent interview with iFL TV, Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, shed light on the matter.

Eddie Hearn wants to fight in the UK

While talking to iFL TV, Hearn confirmed the decision to move forward with the fight in the United Kingdom. “We are going to move forward and make that fight in the UK,” Hearn told iFL TV. Hearn then spoke about possible dates for the highly anticipated fight, highlighting December or January as the prime contenders. “This week, we’re gonna try and get it over the line for Dec 23rd or January,” said Hearn.

He later went on to speculate if he or Kalle Sauerland decides to host the fight in the UK, would BBBofC let the fight happen? “If we stage the fight in the UK or Kalle Sauerland stages the fight in the UK – hopefully the BBBofC [will be the commission who sanction it], but it’s up to them,” Hearn said. However, Hearn confessed his team wants to hold the fight in the UK and is planning to move forward. “We want to do the fight in the UK, and I think we’re gonna move forward and do it,” said Hearn.

He even claimed there is no bigger fight in boxing right now, emphasizing its greatness.
