In boxing, few can rival Claressa Shields’ unparalleled resume. A two-time Olympic gold medalist. The last American to win an Olympic gold in boxing. The only three-division male or female undisputed champion in history. The first undisputed women’s heavyweight champion. And she did this all while maintaining an undefeated record. Shields truly deserves her self-proclaimed moniker GWOAT. Her in-ring dominance is indisputable and by looking at her career, her achievements should place her beyond reproach, right?
Well, we do not live in an ideal world. Shields has constantly faced a barrage of criticism, not for her skills, which are unmatched, but for the stuff outside of the ring. Fans have mocked her fashion choices, taken aim at her personal decisions and even her fellow boxers have branded her as self-centered. For the longest time, Claressa Shields was defending herself alone. However, now she has found an ally in Tiara Brown.

Claressa Shields still hasn’t received her flowers
The newly crowned WBC featherweight champion shares a tight bond with Claressa Shields. During the recent FightHype TV interview, the host brought up the friendship before asking Brown to weigh in on the criticism often leveled against Claressa Shields. “I think Clarissa Shields has the most accomplishments of anyone, male or female, in the boxing game. What American men got two Olympic gold medals? Two back-to-back. There is none,” she replied.
Her tone shifted to frustration as she addressed how the boxing community had constantly disrespected the Flint native. “You know I don’t think she gets the credit that she deserves,” she stated. Brown revealed how watching Shields’ biopic, The Fire Inside, deepened her admiration for the 30-year-old. She had no idea how much T-Rex struggled to get to where she is today.
“She just got this movie that came out. I watched it, that was a good movie. That movie was lit. I learned a lot you know. And I don’t think she gets her flowers. I don’t think that she gets what she deserves. Because she accomplished great things in boxing. Has she not?” Brown asserted.
Brown didn’t hold back, calling out fans for their harshness and urging them to consider the struggles athletes endure. “She’s(Shields) accomplished great things in life you know. And I just think that we have to do better,” she argued. The criticism is not only limited to fans as Claressa Shields recently opened up about how she feels about a secret animosity against her in the boxing world.

Shields expose boxing divide
Ahead of the Mayer-Ryan clash, Claressa Shields had a conversation with FightHype TV. As the interviewer teased a conversation about her dynamic with Amanda Serrano, Shields revealed that she has been a long-time fan of The Real Deal. “I was a fan of her(Serrano) before Jake Paul. I’m a fan of her now,” she revealed.

She stressed her unwavering support for Serrano’s career, cheering her on ringside at nearly every fight. The 30-year-old, however, pointed out stark contrast in how that gesture is reciprocated. “I feel like it’s a little secret animosity or whatever going on there. I want you guys to look at something because everybody thinks I just be picking. Look at all the girls’ fights who I come to and then look at my fights and then you look at who’s there and then you can tell me who’s the hater,” she challenged, laying bare the disparity.
The Flint native has been a constant presence in every women’s boxing event, including the Serrano-Taylor epic rivalry. “I’ve been at every Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano fight. I’ve been at other fights too with all the women,” she explained. But when it comes to her matches, no one comes, including her historic undisputed heavyweight victory in February.
