

In 1990, with WBA, IBF, and WBC World Heavyweight titles on the line, Mike Tyson faced James Douglas in the ring. In a huge upset, Douglas, despite going down in the eighth round, knocked Tyson out in the tenth round of their fight. Tyson, who had just conquered a 1st-round TKO win over Carl Williams in his last fight, shocked his fans worldwide.

After 32 years of the Buster Douglas loss in boxing, rapper and actor Ice Cube talked about the event in his latest appearance on Hotboxin’. According to him, the moment Tyson lost to Douglas inside the Tokyo Dome in 1990, the world stopped making sense.

“We felt like the world had changed. Now the whole world don’t make sense no more,” Ice Cube recounted by saying. However, Tyson, soon addressed what was actually interesting about that event in his life.

After his loss to Douglas in 1990, convicted of r*pe, Tyson went to prison in 1992. Following his release, gradually Tyson became the WBC and WBA World Heavyweight champion in boxing. Alluding to his 1996 Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon victories, ‘Kid Dynamite’ said the following:

“But, know what’s interesting about that? That I became the champ again. We forgot about that. I went to prison and became the champ again.” After the fight against Bruce Seldon in 1996, the same year Tyson faced Evander Holyfield. Unfortunately, he lost via TKO and Holyfield won Tyson’s WBA World Heavyweight title in boxing.

Ice Cube found a superhero in ‘Kid Dynamite’
Tyson’s loss against Douglas and his wins in 1996 taught something of value to guest Ice Cube regarding life. Cube looked at Tyson as a superhero and ‘Kid Dynamite’ taught him to get back up after falling.

“You a superhero man. Without a doubt, you’re a superhero. We looked at you as a superhero. And you showed us superheroes fall, get back, and do it again,” concluded Ice Cube by saying. However, after Tyson lost against Holyfield, he had a rematch the next year with the same title on the line. Tyson lost via disqualification in the 3rd round of this fight.
