Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia were training partners for many years. Though, things took a turn last year when tensions arose between Eddy Reynoso and Garica. Reynoso and Garcia got into a tussle over the lack of discipline from the boxer’s end and Garcia claimed that the trainer did give him enough time.  Soon after the tussle was exacerbated; Garcia announced that he is no longer a part of the San Diego stable. Post the break-up, Garcia and Alvarez have not been on good terms.

Recently, “Kingry” was handed his first-ever defeat by Gervonta Davis who stopped him in the seventh round via a liver shot. The boxing world, at large was heavily invested in the bout including the undisputed super-middleweight champion. Alvarez weighed his opinions on the bout and had a few words for both combatants.

Many boxing purists and fans are of the opinion that Garcia could have dug a little deeper to continue fighting. Alvarez on similar lines shaded Garcia as he stated that boxers should have the will to get up from a hard punch. @MichaelBensonn took to Twitter and reported recent comments of Alvarez with regards to the fight.  He stated, “Good fight. I thought it was gonna be a little more action, but Gervonta’s too good. That [body shot] hurts a lot, but we are fighters, we need to get up.”

His opinion is of great relevance as he has been competing for many years and has come through many challenging moments inside the ring against formidable opponents. Though, it bears a mention that Alvarez was a supporter of Garcia but since the split has been very candid about his opinions of the 24-year-old. While he recognizes talent when he sees it; he gave due respect to Davis for the impressive showcase of his boxing skills and acumen.

Ahead of Garcia’s bout against “Tank” Alvarez had picked the Baltimore fighter to defeat his former training fighter. Garcia was asked about his reaction to the same. Speaking to @ESNEWS he stated, “You know, I Love Canelo. I’ve picked against him before in fights. This is just our opinion, no bad blood.”
