Gender equality in sports has been a longstanding discussion. The World Boxing Council (WBC) has taken a huge step to promote this sentiment.
At the end of the 58th convention of the World Boxing Council, President Mauricio Sulaiman made a huge announcement. This announcement was a part of their gender equality project.
Mauricio Sulaiman announced that they will deliver the same belt to both men and women moving forward. They have dismissed any detailing in the color pink and have even removed the word ‘female’ from all their titles.

This will put both genders on the same platform and assure equality in their treatment and prestige.
They have already put this into action starting August 15th. The very first belt awarded as a part of this project went to Jessica McCaskill. She delivered a shocker of a performance with a ten round unanimous decision victory over long time champ Cecilia Braekhus.

According to ESPN Deportes, Mauricio Sulaiman said, “It is the first belt for women that does not have the inscription of ‘female’. The women asked for this show of fairness, and now each of our champions will receive this exact belt.
“Usually, the belt for them was smaller, with the design of a flower, details in pink, but we’ve heard from them and now the belt is exactly the same as that of the male branch.”
WBC president makes another noteworthy statement
The President also stressed on the adoption of technology. The annual meet was a virtual one, carried out due to the impossibility of meeting in the wake of the ongoing global pandemic.
He said, “Without a doubt, technology is here to stay. It is opening our eyes to everything, it is making us innovate for the benefit of everyone through the use of remote judges, instant replay, communication between supervisors and officials participating in events…. holding events, purse bids will be this way as well.
