Boxing champion Canelo Alvarez will be returning to the ring after almost eight months to Face John Ryder in his home country. Even the undercards for the fight have been out now, boosting the already high anticipation for the fight. The fight will be taking place on May 6, in Guadalajara. Canelo who is the Undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF & WBO super-middleweight world champion will be hoping to make a statement by defeating Ryder amidst the whole drama with David Benavidez.

Recently, even more, shocking news came up as WBC made a huge announcement days before the fight. Boxing reporter Micheal Benson recently took to Twitter to share the news. The news is of the announcement of the new WBC belt that will be bestowed to the winner of the fight.

WBC announced a new belt for the winner

The WBC has announced the introduction of a new championship title. The winner of the Canelo Alvarez and John Ryder bout will snatch the belt away on May 6. This information was disclosed by Micheal Benson through a tweet. Though, this has caused a bit of mixed reactions from fans.

However, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. In fact, most recently, Tommy Fury was awarded Diriyah Champion’s belt after defeating Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia. Previously, WBC had announced “The Money Belt” for the winner between Conor Macgregor and Floyd Mayweather. The belt is called the Puebla-Jalisco belt, though it will be interesting to see which one of them will come out on the top.

Stakes are high, more pressure on Canelo Alvarez

While the stakes are high with the addition of the belt, the pressure will be on both fighters. It seems that nothing can easily shake Canelo’s deep confidence that he has acquired after decades of experience.

It might interest you to know  that Alvarez apparently had a little accident during his fight against Dmitry Bivol. He apparently broke his left hand but still pushed on and fought the match with the broken hand.

And even after the unfortunate event, he didn’t stop,  managing to defeat “Triple G” Gennadiy Golovkin with an injured hand. After that fight, Alvarez announced that he would be taking time off to recover, which was expected to last a year or more.

However, Alvarez is now set to return to the ring next month, facing John Ryder. In a recent interview with TUDN, he spoke about his hand surgery and how he feels grateful to be able to box without suffering any injuries.

He said that training without any injuries is motivating him to perform at his best. Alvarez explained that the left hand is crucial in boxing. As he uses it to deliver most of the punches, having it back in full form is a game-changer.
