From the old Wild West to the gladiator’s arena, from the ravaging pirates to the honorable Samurais, all in a single frame. No, it’s not the trailer for another Hollywood blockbuster epic starring an A-lister. Instead, fans saw Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk zig-zag through time, enacting the different genres. They were promoting the upcoming battle for the undisputed crown. The reactions so far appear reasonable to account for. But whether the same could be said for the organizers’ attempt at an artwork?

WBC shared a promotional poster depicting Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk sometime ago. Their post read, “Undisputed Heavyweight 🇬🇧 Fury vs. Usyk 🇺🇦 🇸🇦 Riyadh Season Feb. 17th, 2024 History in The Making.” Now only if, as many fans observed, the depictions resembled the real-life boxers. A stream of comments have been flowing in panning the canvas for lacking in detail and likeness.

The Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk train took some time to reach its destination. It was towards the closing months of the year 2022 that talks of a fight between the two in 2023 surfaced. But the talks faltered, leading to the fight never making it to the ring. Thankfully, both sides eventually got together. December 23 was fixed as the tentative fight date initially. But later, it got postponed to the current date, February 17.

Tyson Fury currently holds the WBC belt. Oleksandr Usyk, on the other hand, stands proud as the unified champion. Hence, the upcoming blockbuster at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, should finally bring to closure the long-pending search for the heavyweight division’s undisputed champion. Lennox Lewis was the last boxer to receive the honor, way back in 1999.

Both champions, unbeaten, wouldn’t want to miss that chance in a million to claim a history-making legacy. Reports of both Fury and Usyk leaving no stone unturned for February 17 often grab attention.

The propaganda machine, nevertheless, doesn’t want itself to lag behind. One after the other, fans are coming across varied sets and pieces, raising the intrigue and hype around the fight.

Neither Tyson Fury nor Oleksandr Usyk: Then who’s that?

Well, that’s the question most followers have been rhyming since they saw the flashy poster. Perhaps they should be thanking the names and the large ‘Undisputed’ written at the bottom to help them sort out the confusion.

The following user in fact asked: How could the artists manage to craft Tyson Fury much bigger than your average heavyweight boxer? “Like how yall made Fury look even bigger than a heavyweight,” they said. The next user stated matter-of-factly how badly the entire work had turned out to be: “Neither looks like the fighters in real life. Horrible art work.

One giggling follower couldn’t help but ask, “Lol, who are these guys?” For this user, Fury resembled ‘Triple H’: “Why does fury look like triple h?” Then another roast came from this follower, who seems to wonder whether Oleksandr Usyk is taking on John Fury. “Usyk vs. John Fury??” the follower asked.

Clearly, Tyson Fury looked like the common theme running across discussions. With all that extra bulk, ‘The Gypsy King’ perhaps became the toast of the day.

As much as the fans are looking forward to the undisputed clash, They have a double delight in waiting until March 8, when Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou will fight. Per the available reports, there is a chance that the winner of that bout might get a chance to square up against the newly crowned undisputed title holder. Undoubtedly, it’s one of those early quarters that the boxing calendar may not have come across anytime in the recent era at least.
