Arch-rivals Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero will cross paths in 2022. Last year, the duo was supposed to square off with each other for Davis’ WBA lightweight regular belt. Unfortunately, as Rolando Romero found himself in a controversy, he withdrew from the fight.

After ‘Tank’ defended his belt against Cruz, WBA opted to order him to defend his belt against ‘Rolly’, on a yet-to-be-announced date.

Nobody expected this matchup to come to fruition after what happened last year. However, Romero himself was optimistic about bagging this fight. He had spoken about the same last year and now he seems to have gotten his wish after the WBA’s order.

On December 5, Davis faced a stern test as Cruz was a rugged opponent. Although he wasn’t on Romero’s level to go after Davis, he tried everything in favor to keep ‘Tank’ on his toes.

Cruz kept coming back after Davis’ assault, and he was unfazed by his rival’s power. Hence, the fight went to the final bell where Davis had to be content with a UD win.

Now, in the form of Romero (14-0), the 27-year-old will face yet another stern challenge to his undefeated streak

The lightweight division has some stupendous rivalries in the form of Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko vs Teofimo Lopez. In that list, Davis vs Romero also holds an important spot.

Last year, the rift between the two men reached different levels as the trash talks went too far and both boxers were eager to destroy each other in the ring. Fans will hope that things haven’t cooled down despite the slight delay in their collision.
