Reigning WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, almost suffered his first professional loss via TKO a year ago. “The Gypsy King” was a bloody mess during one of his recent boxing matches.
Fury’s story is an inspiring one. The Brit has fought through adversity in and out of the ring. After defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, Fury found himself in trouble. Nevertheless, he returned to the sport in 2018. Two fights into his return, Fury was offered the opportunity to fight Deontay Wilder.
The first Wilder fight did not go his way. Even though he outboxed Wilder for the majority of the bout, Wilder scored two knockdowns that probably swayed the judges’ decision. Unsurprisingly, Fury did not back down. He vowed to knockout Wilder in the second fight.

Tyson Fury bloodies up during his quest for gold
Meanwhile, he took on German boxer Tom Schwarz and stopped him in the second round. Following his win over Schwarz, Fury fought Swedish fighter, Otto Wallin. Many believed that this match was just another day at the office for Fury. But they were wrong. Wallin, who was also undefeated, brought the fight to Fury.
Three rounds into the fight, Wallin opened up a cut over Fury’s right eye. Fans were tensed. The ringside physician could have called off the bout at any time. However, Fury’s cutman did an excellent job in controlling the bleeding.
It was not over yet. The duo clashed heads two rounds later, and Fury developed another cut. Wallin’s corner even ordered him to target Fury’s cut to force an early stoppage. Nonetheless, Fury won the match via a unanimous decision.
“I got caught early on with the inside of the glove on the eyelid which cut the eye and it changed the fight completely,” Tyson Fury said. “For the majority of the fight, I couldn’t see out of the eye, and then with the southpaw-orthodox clash, a head butt opened up a second cut.”
Tyson Fury required 47 stitches and a ‘web mesh’ to patch up his cut.

Fury takes a detour
Critics as well as Fury’s team feared that the cut may reopen during his next fight. Yet Fury did a couple of shows with the WWE. The 31-year-old then fought Wilder for the second time. Fury did not let the match go in the hands of the judges this time.
