The event at the Arena of Las Vegas amazed the boxing fans with some undercard bouts. The title fight between Shakhram Giyasov and Christian Gomez was one of them.

The boxers entered the ring to claim the IBF North American welterweight title in a 10-round fight. Likewise, the fight lived up to the expectations of the crowd.

This was not the first time Giyasov and Gomez were sharing the same arena. The boxers entered the same ring when Alvarez won against Billy Saunders on May 8, 2021.

Giyasov, with a good professional record and a silver medal at the Rio Olympics, made him a huge fan favorite for the fight.

Gomez belongs to the same hometown as P4P king, Canelo Alvarez, for which the crowd had an eye on him.

The conquest of the IBF title for Giyasov and Gomez

It was a bit of a slow start, with a good exchange of punches amongst the pugilists. Giyasov kept his left guard down but maintained a good distance from Gomez.

Meanwhile, in the 3rd round, the fight accelerated as both the boxers landed blistering punches on each other.

Giyasov was bleeding in the 4th round but landed a heavy left hook which landed Gomez on the canvas to which the referee gave a count. In the subsequent rounds, the boxers portrayed a good show to the audience, with some good hits and misses.

Moreover, in the 7th round, Giyasov dropped Gomez for the second time in the fight with a right uppercut on Gomez’s face.

This drop didn’t let Gomez hold back and eventually he went on striking some aggressive punches at the end of the 7th round.

Shakhram Giyasov: The new IBF North American titleholder 

Giyasov was dominating Gomez during the fight with points and two drops on the mat. He dropped Gomez again in the final round of the fight. However, Christian Gomez didn’t give up and continued to fight until the end.

In the end, Shakhram Giyasov emerged victorious over Gomez by decision and became the new IBF North American welterweight champion. 

Well, ‘Wonder Boy’ took good advantage of such a big platform to prove his worth and glory to the boxing fraternity by claiming a title at this intriguing event.
